CESENA - 26/03/2013 - It was held in Cesena, inside the CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, the thesis dissertation of two students in Architecture: Francesco Ranicchi and Besmira Braho. The two students presented the results of the work carried out at Pierle together with the works of other undergraduates. The church is close to Piazza del Popolo, in Via Don Lorenzo Milani and is used for carrying out the thesis or more generally as exhibition hall, by faculty of architecture "Aldo Rossi".
The church was built between 1694 and 1695 by Pier Mattia Angeloni and was originally part of the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit.
He was repeatedly altered between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and is now used as an exhibition space. For this reason, within the church, are located some adjustable dividers on which students can post their works.
The dissertation is done through an effective method. Students use the dividers to expose their material. All the people involved in this event can view all the material exposed. The discussion is held with the candidates that exhibit the work to the members of the Committee degree. Students use the material placed on the dividers In this way, during the discussion of students, teachers, photographers and relatives alternate between the sectors of the exhibition.
Francesco e Besmira began at 9.00 am. Before beginning it was possible to observe the equipment that they have decided to present. The object that has certainly captured the attention of the visitors was the model of the fortress. In fact, it was at the center of the exhibition. It was a reproduction made ??entirely with Numerical Control Machines and was in wood and in PVC. The wooden part was made with a computerized pantograph while the parts in white PVC were carried out with a numerically controlled cutter and glued together
The undergraduates had produced two projects for the restoration of the fortress. The model accounted for the most innovative idea than the other and includes the construction of a buttress in steel in the shape of arc. This, in addition to solving the problems of stability of the septa of the fortress, allows to reach the top of the castle by using steps and ramps.
Inside the book of the thesis are explained in detail both. This first solution, in particular, has the advantage of being less invasive because it minimizes the filling volume keeping the maximum permeability of the visual artifact. It also takes full advantage of the openings already present inside the fortress. The second project involved the relocation of the collaborating arc system, as the castle had been originally conceived. This solution, however, severely limits the freedom of style designers and threatens to "dirty" the reading of the fortress, because the new parts would cover the original parts of the castle
At 9.00 am began the discussion of the thesis. The exhibition in front of the doctoral committee was preceded by a presentation by Rapporteur Prof. Andrea Ugolini and by correlator Prof. Federico Fallavollita. this second professor took care of laser measurements made ??at Pierle
During the exposure of undergraduates the public could attend. Who was among the various exhibitors should not hinder the work of the Committee. It was possible to hear and photograph all the moments of the discussion.
The exposure of the thesis is based on the discussion of 20 tables, a video and a plastic. The undergraduates have presented together own work. It turns both in the exposition and in response to questions from the committee. For the fact that you have also used laser survey techniques could also propose a movie with the virtualization of Pierle.
During the presentation of the safety of the fortress, the commission has focused to observe the plastic. He was able to hear directly from Francesco and Besmira the explanations that have helped to develop this solution.
After the exposure of students, the work of the doctoral committee proceeded with the hearing of the other undergraduates. The Work of Francis and Besmira had ended. They had only to wait for the commission will gather together to decide the assessments and to deliberate. At about 13.00 the President of the Commission expressed the proclaimed, with the ritual formula, Francesco and Besmira new doctors in Architecture.
It's all right.! Relieved and happy Besmira and Francesco begin to enjoy the success, the result of their hard work.
Students are really good. Rocca di Pierle thank them , teachers and correlators that allowed all this.
The castle of Pierle has been abandoned for centuries and few know about its existence. Now something has changed. The work of the thesis, contributes positively to the knowledge Pierle and proposes practical solutions to his rescue. The activities, of the students, revitalizes and enhances the image and visibility of Pierle. This is their most important merit. The revival of the castle can only be done by people who are passionate and motivated people like them. Pierle must regain the luster it deserves. The commitment, the care and the passion of Francis and Besmira arouses our admiration.
Thank you all and see you in Pierle.
