| FLYING OVER THE ROCCA |
20/05/2010 - Flying over the Rocca di Pierle.
Pierle's safety measures required the use of a crane capable of reaching the top of the tower. The 65-meter crane is equipped with a basket, connected by a steel rope, which allows two operators to work at height. The first operation carried out by the technicians was to reach the top of the cone to assess its condition. conservation. Subsequently, to allow the cleaning of the ivy and more simply to be able to operate under the tower itself, the loose and unsafe stones were removed. At the end of this phase, it was possible to carry out a patrol of the state of the tower by climbing inside the basket and reaching the top of the tower there.
This page presents some images of this phase of perlustation. They are unique and exceptional images available only on our site. No one before our technicians was able to observe the fortress from this point of view. The wind however created some problems during the ascent phase of the cage. the gusts that came from the south-east did not make their effects felt at low altitudes because both the keep and the tower offered their powerful shelter. Reached 25 meters above the ground, once the height of the male has been exceeded, the wind has begun to annoy the movements of the basket. The cage, at those altitudes, hangs on a free rope for at least 35-40 meters, losing its position. cover of the male, he began to swing. The operator who moves the crane cannot prevent this from happening, because he is only able to raise the basket or not. The situation was even worse when an attempt was made to overtake the tower at the level of 40 meters above the ground.
The basket, due to the wind, began to turn on itself and it was impossible to go further. It would also have been difficult to safely get a basket moved too far by the wind down. The main risk in these cases is that of being slammed against the tower by gusts, so the basket has always remained downwind of the tower and below 40 meters. This did not prevent us from making a very interesting discovery, which we had not been able to notice from below.
As you can see from the irregular stones on the side of the top of the castle, what have always seemed to us like battlements on the top of the keep are actually other windows with the top wall of the fortress that joined the tower by at least another two meters. The male's body was probably taller and had windows like those on the lower floors. This observation will force us to modify all the computerized models of the 3D reconstructions of the fortress made so far.
From the photographs on this page it is also possible to notice how thick the vegetation was near the tower before the start of the works and will serve as a comparison at the end of the latter..
Here is a roundup of photographs taken during this activity.
